Homemade Ice Cream
Whether you're celebrating a joyous occasion or seeking solace on a challenging day, few treats rival the comforting delight of ice cream. Its creamy texture and endless flavor possibilities make it a versatile companion for any mood or season. Today, I invite you to explore the delightful world of homemade ice cream, infused with the natural sweetness of maple syrup and honey.
Embracing Natural Sweetness
In a world increasingly conscious of refined sugars, exploring alternative sweeteners like maple syrup and honey brings a refreshing twist to traditional desserts. These natural sweeteners not only add depth and complexity to flavors but also impart a subtle, earthy sweetness that complements the creaminess of ice cream perfectly.
Mason Jar
My first ice cream endeavor in my culinary journey began with Mason Jar Ice Cream—a delightful creation that's both effortless and quick, requiring a mere 10 minutes of preparation. The resulting treat boasts a sweet creamy texture and a richness that provokes the taste buds, ensuring a gratifying experience with every spoonful.

¾ TBSP Pure Maple Syrup
¾ TBSP Honey
1 ½ Tsp Vanilla Extract (You may round up to 2 if you like vanilla like me)
Pinch of Salt
Directions
Add all ingredients
Shake well (about 5 Minutes)
Freeze for 3 hours and enjoy
Easy to make Ice Cream
Perfecting the second recipe required several test batches as I fine-tuned it to suit my taste preferences for ice cream. In my adaptation, I replaced 1 ½ cups of whole milk with ½ cup of skim milk, creating a lighter yet still creamy texture. While this recipe is straightforward, it demands more time and specific tools for preparation. I opted for a food processor equipped with a dough blade set to puree, which proved optimal for achieving the desired consistency. The resulting flavor profile is decadently creamy, rich, and bursting with robust variations that leave a lasting impression.
Ingredients
2 ½ Cups Heavy Cream
½ Cup Milk (I used Skim)
⅓ Cup Pure Maple Syrup
⅓ Cup Honey
2-3 Tsp Vanilla Extract (depends on your tastes)
¼ Tsp Salt
Directions
Add all ingredients in a medium saucepan, heat on medium-low, and whisk often for 5-7 minutes or until the mixture is warm throughout
Pour into a gallon ziplock bag and put in the freezer until it is frozen through (roughly 4-8 hours)
Put the frozen cream into a food processor, preferably a dough blade, and mix until pureed. You may add your favorite things at this time.
Put it back in the freezer and let it freeze for about 3 hours.
Enjoy
Custard Ice Cream
For my third recipe, I opted for a delicious French custard. This delightful treat boasts a delicate smooth texture that melts in your mouth, accompanied by a symphony of exquisite flavors. With each spoonful, it not only satisfies the palate but also nourishes the soul, making it a truly indulgent experience.
Ingredients
2 Cups Heavy Cream
1 Cup Milk (I used Skim)
⅜ Cup Pure Maple Syrup
⅜ Cup Honey
2-3 Tsp Vanilla Extract or 1 vanilla bean (depends on your taste)
4 Large egg yolks
Directions
Add all ingredients, except the egg yolks and ¼ Cup sugar mixture, to a medium saucepan, heat on medium-low and whisk often for 5-7 minutes or until the mixture is warm throughout
In a separate bowl or measuring cup, mix the egg yolks and remaining sugar mixture. Add some of the cream mix to the yolks mix and whisk well. Slowly add the yolks mix with the rest of cream mix in sauce pan
Reheat on medium-low and whisk often for 5-7 minutes or until the mixture is warm throughout
Strain the mixture into bowl and let it cool in room temp for about 10 minutes
Pour into a gallon ziplock bag and put in freezer until it is frozen through (roughly 4-8 hours)
Put the frozen cream into a food processor, preferably a dough blade, and mix until pureed. You may add your favorite things at this time.
Put it back in the freezer and let it freeze for about 3 hours.
Enjoy
